Block paving in the busy pedestrian areas of Penrith town centre (Castlegate, Sand Gate, Cornmarket and Princess Street) on behalf of Cumbria County Council.
This project involved the removal of existing sandstone flags, laying a new sub base; block paving and replacing defective kerb stones.
Close consultation was required with shopkeepers, tenants, utilities companies, the general public and the Highways Agency. Pedestrian access to businesses had to be maintained at all times, taking into consideration the needs of those with mobility problems. Some road closures and traffic management were required to ensure the safety of the general public and our employees. Our stringent Health and Safety procedures ensured safe working practices, within these busy public areas and the work was completed to schedule.
